Deciding on a core wedding theme will help with every other decision you need to make about your big day, from the invitations to the lighting and even your dress choice. It is, however, the most challenging decision of them all, because hitting on THE perfect theme that suits both you and your groom, is within your budget, and sends you into a dreamy swoon every time you imagine what your big day will look and feel like, is a gargantuan task!

To get you started here are 5 wedding themes set to stir up many a bridal daydream in 2016 – try not to drool too much!

  1. The New Rustic

Gone are the days of hessian table runners and horseshoes, there is a new rustic style in town and it’s one that oozes woodland romance and natural opulence. Think foliage and flowers in abundance, lace gowns, loose, flowing hairstyles, naked cakes, and luxe tablescapes overflowing with local cheeses and farm-fresh, seasonal cuisine.

  1. Artful Romance

Treat your guests to something a bit different by bringing out your inner Picasso and indulging in a wedding theme that shows off your creative style and flair. Think statement blooms with pops of colour, wallpaper or art installation backdrops in place of the tired photo booth, structured gowns crafted with rich silks and chiffons, perfectly styled up-dos, and a bright pair of heels, bold lipstick, or other artsy touch to finish the look.

  1. Elegant Vintage

An oldie but a goodie, an elegant theme reminiscent of a bygone era will never go out of style, and in 2016 it’s set to be as big as ever. Think gilded frames for your table seating chart, Hollywood glamour gowns with plenty of ‘poof’, 5-tier cakes adorned with roses and peonies in every shade of pink, and oysters in a half shell and decadent champagne cocktails sipped from gold-rimmed flutes.

  1. Whimsical Boho

Ditch the veil in favour of a flower crown and embrace your whimsical side with this new take on the boheme theme. Think teepee photo booths, patterned tablecloths in bright, bold fabrics, unstructured bouquets with a happy clash of feathers and succulents, delphiniums and kale, flowing lace gowns matched with cowboy boots and hoop earrings, and share plates tapas style washed down by elderflower cocktails served in Moroccan tumblers.

  1. Tropical Oasis

If you’re wedding is planned for the warmer months you can take advantage of the latest wedding theme trend – tropical! It’s all about creating a fun, fresh atmosphere to make a splash on your big day. Think pineapples, palms and pretty pink flamingos, and if you’re game consider a brightly patterned wedding dress and watercolour print for the cake. Add an element of surprise with a self-serve cocktail bar or resort-wear attired wait staff dishing out fruit kebabs, sparkling hibiscus punch (complete with mini umbrellas) and refreshing ginger tea cocktails served in – what else? – a coconut.

It’s a tough decision but every bride’s gotta do it! Which wedding theme will you go for?
